Using Doodles

It's Thursday and I am the hostess for today's Ways To Use It challenge.  I was feeling a little Smoochy (wink, wink) so I pulled out the birthday sampler and got to doodling.  Doodling, scribbling, drawing...that's what this week's challenge is all about.  I doodled in many places.  I doodled around the border of my card and the sponged circle.  I scribbled in some balloon strings and outlined the edges of my balloons to give them a bit more definition.  Finally, I added some dots to my stamped sentiment.  It's kind of crazy, but I like it!  Your thoughts, let me know down below.
I'll leave you with a few more random thoughts running through my head:
  • 12 more days of school/work left
  • I've got to fit in some squats today
  • The dinner dilemma, what to have?
Thanks for stopping by!

A Scor-Pal and Paper Smooches Gift Box

Hi!  It's Toni here with another fun Scor-Pal project.  This week the Scor-Pal team is hopping with the design team from Paper Smooches!!! Oh man, this is going to be fun and you will not want to miss one single photo!  Make sure you visit the Paper Smooches blog, as well as the Scor-Pal blog.  My project for this hop is an origami gift box.
For this project, you will need:
With the 8 3/4" side of the card stock against the top fence of your Scor-Pal, move the left hand edge of the card stock to the 1/8" groove.  Score your card stock at 3" and 6".
Rotate the card so that the 11 7/8" side of the card stock is up against the top fence of your Scor-Pal.  Score at 1 1/2" and 4 1/2".  Then score at 2 1/2" from the top of your Scor-Pal to the first horizontal score line.  Score again at 2 1/2" from the second horizontal score line to the bottom of the card stock.
Rotate the card stock 180 degrees and repeat previous step.
Insert your Scor-Mat into your Scor-Pal and place your card stock with the 11 7/8" side up.  On the 2 1/2" score line, cut down to the first horizontal score line.  Repeat in the next three corners.
Rotate your card stock so that the 8 3/4" side of the paper is aligned with the top fence.  On the first vertical score line, cut from 1 1/2" to 4 1/2".  Repeat for the next three cuts as shown by red lines in the photo.
Turn the card stock over and crease all of the score lines.
Flip the card stock over and adhere Scor-Tape as shown.
Remove backing on the Scor-Tape and adhere sides together, forming the base of the box.
Trim 1" tabs as shown below.
Flip base of box over and line trimmed 1" tabs with Scor-Tape as shown.
Remove adhesive backing and adhere to the adjacent square panel, creating side closures.
Here is a view of the origami box with the side closures folded up.  Now your box is ready for embellishment.
Take a peek at these fabulous Paper Smooches images from the new set called Retail Therapy that I used to embellish my origami box.  Paper Smooches has the most fun fonts and I couldn't resist this one.  I stamped my sentiment and then punched it out with a small circle punch.  I backed the sentiment with another larger circle and a rosette.  It needed just  a bit more, so I inked up the bow.  I stamped, colored and trimmed it out.  Finally, I placed a rhinestone in the center and hung it off my sentiment.
Doesn't this just make you smile?  Here is one more photo to show you how the finished box looks as you open it up to reveal a little gift.  I'll be placing some stick on earrings in her for my daughter who just turned seven!
Thanks for coming by!  Don't forget to head on back to the Scor-Pal blog so you don't miss a thing!

Friends and Bookmarks

Happy Memorial Day to all my U.S. friends and readers and Happy Monday to all the rest!  I'm back today with my current project for the Friends of Speedy TV challenge.  The challenge is to make a bookmark and I went super simple.  These gladiolus are beautiful all by themselves and so that is how I left them.  Okay, I did add some sponging, a jumbo eyelet and some mini cording and faux canvas ribbon...but that's not much!  I stamped on patterned paper which is something I love to do, but don't remember to do often.  Then I colored my flowers with Copic Markers.  Of course, the markers bled through to the back of the patterned paper.  I really  loved that look, it was almost like a watercolor.  I didn't put that face up, but look out, I may do it in the future.  I am in hopes that you will play along with us this week.  Bookmarks are simple and there are so many variations.  I played with the idea of making a ribbon based bookmark with a stamped charm on the end, maybe of the shrinky dink variety.  In the end, I opted for a very traditional bookmark without a sentiment.

Let's not forget that Mark's Finest Papers offers a free stamp set for one lucky participant.  This week's stamp set is called Autumn Friendships.  Here is a peek at this great set:
Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

A Scor-Pal and May Arts Gift Bag

Hello! It's Toni here with another Scor-Pal project.  Yesterday and today, the Scor-Pal team is hopping with the May Arts team. You should have arrived from DeeDee Catron and the UmWow Studio.  You will not want to miss any of the amazing projects put out by the Scor-Pal design team and the May Arts Ribbonistas.  For my part in this hop, I created a pleated gift bag*.
For this project, you will need:
Cut the wrapping paper into a 12" by 12" square and place it pattern side up against the top fence of your Scor-Pal.  Score at 1", 2", 3", 4", 5", 7", 8", 9", 10" and 11".   Score lines are shown here in white, in order to be visible against the pattern.
Flip the wrapping paper over and Score at 3/4", 1 3/4", 2 3/4", 3 3/4", 4 3/4", 7 1/4", 8 1/4", 9 1/4", 10 1/4" and 11 1/4".
Crease the score lines in a back and forth motion, creating pleats that expand out from behind the two inch wide center panel.

Line the outside edges of your 1 1/2" x 6" piece of cardboard with Scor-Tape.  I have used 1/4" wide Scor-Tape here.
Remove the backing of the Scor-Tape and adhere to center of the inside of the pleated gift wrap.
Line the exposed cardboard face along the edges as shown and then line the outside pleats of the gift wrap above the cardboard with Scor-Tape
Remove the backing from the adhesive on the cardboard and adhere the front and back panels of the gift bag to the cardboard base.  Then remove the backing from the adhesive on the outside pleats and adhere the sides, front and back, of the gift bag together.
To create handles for the gift bag, open up the bag and line two pleats of equal distance from the center with 1/2" wide Scor-Tape.  Repeat on the opposite side.
Remove the backing from the Scor-Tape and adhere a 24" length of May Arts ribbon in a "U" shape to create one handle.  Repeat on the other side.
Thank you for reading along with my tutorial today.  I hope you enjoyed it.  Now, you will want to head off to see what brilliance Emily Lanham has in store for you.  Make sure you head back to the Scor-Pal blog to follow the links to yesterday's fabulous work.  Below, you can find links to all of today's stops on the hop!

Friends and Children

Happy Monday!  It's a tired Monday for me even though I got to bed early.  My daughter's birthday was yesterday and we had her party for her.  I am still clinging to the family birthday parties and that meant spaghetti dinner for 25 yesterday!  The party began at 1:00 and we had guests until 7:00 and then the clean up began.

This week's Friends of Speedy TV challenge fits nicely with my weekend.  This week, we are to make a card for a child.  I went ahead and made my 7 year old a birthday card.  She was particularly thrilled that I included a square of her wrapping paper on her card.  It's the floral square behind the wrapping paper and also the cupcake wrapper and the hearts in the frosting.  I did a little bit of paper piecing.

For my card, I used a sketch by Lisa Arana and just extended my flag to include my sentiment!  Now don't forget that Mark's Finest Papers offers a prize for one lucky winner!  This week, that set is called Zoo Friends.  This set is super cute!  Check it out:
Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful day!

Details - Stamps: Big Cupcake (MFP); Paper: Sweet Tooth White, GKD White, wrapping paper; Ink: Tuxedo Black; Accessories: Linen & Canvas impression plate, square punch, paper snips, Copic Markers, stampin' dimensionals.

It's day three and we are in for some space fun!  This was one of two ideas that I had after I first saw the set.  I tried the other idea and it worked, only I got my spacing wrong and it was hard to photograph.  I'll give another try before too long!  This card uses a couple of images from the new set and one sentiment!  I did more best cutting, punching and sponging to create my moon.  What do you think?  Here's another one I could send to my sister, as she had a plan forever and ever to build a rocket ship with one of our parent's friends.

Hope you all are enjoying the hop!  Don't forget to blast on over to Sue's blog to see what she has in store for you.

Now those flames are "in tents", aren't they?  Sorry about that folks, but it took me a little while to get that pun.  I felt like a dunce when I finally did!  Anyhow, I love the sentiment.  It's really true, especially for our family.  I went camping with my family in a motor home as a child.  As an adult, my husband (boyfriend then) introduced me to backpacking.  It was quite a change, but one I was easily able to embrace.  Now that we have a young child, we have a small tent trailer and still rough it quite a bit!  My hubby hasn't seen this card yet, but I'm sure he'll love it!

Thanks for coming by today.  Don't forget to see what Sue has on her blog for you today!

Hooray!  I have more cattails today.  Oh, I love these.  Let me tell you that I have been fascinated with cattails since I was a young girl.  My mother had some dried cattails and I used to love to touch those forbidden things.  I can touch these cattails all day long and not risk the upset of my mother!  I imitated the fuzzy texture of my mother's cattails with the strands of burlap twine.

Maybe I will send this to my sister and see if she remembers Mom's cattails and ask if you touched them secretly too.

Don't forget to head over to Sue's blog and see what style of card she is making for this release.  Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoy the rest of the hop.
