Scor-Pal's May More Than One Score Challenge - Floral Fantasy Mid-Month Tutorial

It's hard to believe just how fast time goes.  We are already at mid-month again!  So, I have the mid-month tutorial on the Faceted Vase for you.  Since this month's theme is Floral Fantasy, a vase seems only natural. I did pick up some paper flowers for my vase, as well.  The rest of the team has made some amazing projects so be sure to check out the Scor-Pal blog for pictures and links to their blogs.
For this project, you will need:

  • Scor-Pal
  • Scor-Tape
  • Scor-Tool
  • One 6" x 6" piece of card stock
  • Matching card stock scrap
  • Paper snips
  • Circle punch
  • Ruler
  • Pencil
  • Seam binding
  • Mini glue dot

Place the card stock into the Scor-Pal against the top fence and score at 1".
Flip the card stock over and score at 1 1/2", 2", 2 1/2", 3", 3 1/2", 4", 4 1/2", 5", and 5 1/2".
Rotate the card stock 90 degrees so that the 1" scored section is along the top fence.  Score at 1", 2", 3", 4" and 5" stopping at the first score line.
With your pencil, make marks at 1 1/4", 1 3/4", 2 1/4", 2 3/4", 3 1/4", 3 3/4", 4 1/4", 4 3/4", 5 1/4" and 5 3/4".
Rotate the card stock 180 degrees, so that the 1" section is at the bottom of the paper.  Now begin to score the diagonal lines with your Scor-Tool to make the faceted look.  Begin by scoring from the 2" mark on the left hand side to the 1" mark on the bottom.  Do not score below the bottom 1" score line.  Continue scoring between two points that 1" greater than the first. For example, your second diagonal score line will be between the 3" mark on the left and the 2" mark on the bottom. A pattern will become evident.
Now score the diagonal score lines moving from right to left across the piece of card stock.  The first score will be between the 2" mark on the right hand side and the 5" mark on the bottom.  Do not score below the bottom 1" score line.  Continue scoring between two points at 1" intervals.  This time, your second diagonal score line will be between the 3" mark on the right and the 4" mark on the bottom. A pattern will become evident.
Trim out sections on the bottom inch of the card stock to create tabs for the base of the vase.  The first 1" square will be removed completely.  Next, use the pencil marks created at every 1/4" and 3/4" to trim the tabs.  For instance, you will trim from 1 1/4" up to the score line at 1" and then trim from 1 3/4" up to the score line at 2".
Next, trim out the five inward facing triangles made the diagonal score lines on the right hand side of the card stock.  This will create a less visible seam on your vase.
Next, burnish all of your score lines.
Apply Scor-Tape to the right edge of the card stock as shown.
Remove adhesive backing and secure the right side of the card stock to the left edge of the card stock, creating the tube shape of the vase.
Apply Scor-Tape to the inside of 4 of the 5 tabs.
Remove adhesive backing and secure tabs in the shape of a pentagon.  Start by folding the tab without adhesive inside first.
To reinforce the bottom of the vase, punch a circle from matching card stock and secure it to the bottom.
With vase placed right side up, time a length of ribbon around the top of the vase and secure the knot with a mini glue dot.
Finally, fill your faceted vase with flowers of your choice. Weighting  the bottom of the vase will prevent tipping.  A few marbles or metal washers will work nicely.
