Friends and Tags (09/29/14)

Good Monday morning!  I'm back with another Friends of Speedy TV challenge and this week we are making tags.  I made these four tags to put in my daughter's lunchbox this week.  I have been dying to play with the Chicken Wire set.  Love it!  I nabbed a few other sets to come up with some appropriate sentiments for the tags.  Tags are pretty quick and pretty easy.  I used a corner punch, some eyelets, a sponge dauber and some burlap twine to add some oomph to my tags.

Don't forget that Mark's Finest Papers offers a free stamp set to one lucky participant.  This week's stamp set is called What a Fox.  Check it out:
Won't you join us over the next two weeks?  Thanks for stopping by and have a great week!

Using Trees

Oh Happy Sunday Friends!  I'm posting my card from the Ways To Use It challenge this week.  I'm the challenge hostess this week and I decided that we should use Trees this week.  Fall is now upon us and giving us all kinds of color.  If your favorite season is not Fall, but Winter...a Christmas tree may be more apropos!

I was very tired when I created this card.  You see, my darling daughter and I are making the adjustment to third grade, a new teacher and a new school.  She isn't all that into her homework and her slacker and my perfectionism are going head to head!  Not to mention, I had another project to finish that almost resulted in a crafting fail, yikes!

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.

Details - Stamps: Hodge Podge of Happiness (Unity), Hello My Friend (Unity); Paper: Snow Storm Smooth; Ink: Basic Brown; Accessories: Copic Markers, Touch Twin Markers, Nestabilities.

A Scor-Pal Paper Pumpkin

Hello Crafty Friends!  It's time for a new Scor-Pal tutorial and this time it is all about Halloween or Fall.  I opted to make a Fall project and created this fun paper pumpkin*.  Get ready for some scoring!
For this project, you will need:

  • Scor-Pal
  • Scor-Tape
  • 8 sheets of 12" x  12" orange card stock
  • 3  1 1/2" x 3" pieces of brown card stock
  • 1 sheet of green card stock
  • Strong Adhesive ( I used Crystal Effects)
  • Paper Snips
  • 1" circle punch
  • Leaf die
Place the first orange 12" by 12" piece of card stock in the Scor-Pal.  Score at every inch mark.
Flip the paper over, switching front and back, and then score every half inch between the previously scored line.  This will be 1/2", 1 1/2", 2 1/2", 3 1/2", 4 1/2", 5 1/2". 6 1/2". 7 1/2". 8 1/2". 9 1/2", 10 1/2" and 11 1/2".
Trim scored orange paper as follows:  1 1/2" x 12" (2 pieces), 2 3/4" x 12" (3 pieces), 3" x 12"(3 pieces), 3 1/4" x 12"(12 pieces), 3 1/2" x 12" (3 pieces), 2 1/2" x 12"(3 pieces), and 1 3/4" x 12" (2 pieces).  If you want to sponged or distress the edges, now is the time to do it.

Use the 1" circle punch to 20 circles at this time.

Accordion fold your pieces now.  Remember that the raised line is a valley and the depressed line is a mountain.  (Important tip: Keep the pieces that measure the same together.)

Starting with the 3 1/2" by 12" strips, line the last two panels of the accordion folded strip with Scor-Tape.

Remove adhesive lining from Scor-Tape and overlap with two panels from the second accordion piece.  Adhere the two accordion folded strips to create one longer strip.  Repeat this step with the third strip to create an even longer strip.
Using the same process of lining the last two panels with Scor-Tape and overlapping them, create a circle out of the accordion folded strip.
Next, push in the top of the accordion folded circle while pressing down to create your rosette shape.
Apply your adhesive to a 1" circle and secure it to the top of the rosette.  Repeat this same action on the bottom of the rosette.  (I used Crystal Effects and had to wait for it to dry, others have successfully used glue guns.)
Create the rest of the rosettes at this time.  It is helpful to create them and keep them in the same order as they were listed for cutting.  There will be ten rosettes in all.  The first and last rosette have only two accordion folded strips, while all others have three.  Four rosettes will be made with the 3 1/4" x 12" strips.

Assemble your paper pumpkin by using strong adhesive on the paper circles between the layers.  It worked best to assemble them from top to bottom in this order:  1 1/2" x 12" rosette, 2 3/4" x 12" rosette, 3" x 12" rosette,  two 3 1/4" x 12" rosettes, 3 1/2" x 12" rosette, two 3 1/4" x 12" rosettes, 2 1/2" x 12" rosette and finally the 1 3/4" x 12" rosette.

The paper pumpkin is starting to take shape and now needs some additional details.
Create a stem for the pumpkin by trimming one edge of the 1 1/2" x 3" strips of brown card stock into a fringe.  Line the side without fringe with Scor-Tape. Repeat with the second and third pieces of brown card stock.
Remove the adhesive backing  on one piece and roll it into a tight roll.  Remove the backing of the next piece and continue to wrap it around the first roll, creating a stem for the pumpkin.  Adhere the stem to the top of the paper pumpkin with strong adhesive.

Trim 1/8" strips of green card stock and create vines by curling the strips around a pencil.  Secure the vines to the paper pumpkin with strong adhesive.  Die cut leaves from the same green card stock and adhere to the paper pumpkin as desired.
This completes my paper pumpkin tutorial.  Enjoy!

Details - Paper: Orange, Soft Suede, Old Olive; Accessories: Scor-Pal, Scor-Tape, Crystal Effects, Spellbinders Fall Foliage dies, paper snips, circle punch.

Now we are getting primed for Christmas with our Nutcrackers set.  This set has two lovely nutcrackers to color any way you like.  I let my 8 year old pick the colors for me .  She was very excited and ran to get her hard cover picture book of The Nutcracker.  She found the colors in the story and I did my best to create him true to the picture she had selected.  I had to ad lib just a bit because my stamped nutcracker has a different uniform than my storybook nutcracker.  My 8 year old was pleased nonetheless.  That was a relief (if you have spent any time with 8 year olds you can appreciate how they tell it like it is)!

Thanks for stopping by today.  Come on back tomorrow for more creativity!!!

Ahhhhh, don't you just love this mum?  I have been super excited by all the florals that Mark's Finest Papers has been releasing.  Chrysanthemum is just as wonderful as the previously released florals!  Just wait until you get to color it!!!  I can't recall if there are pink Mums or not, but I saw a color combination and just went for it.  I fussy cut out the flower head with a craft knife first and then my scissors.  I stamped my card base and adhered the flower head to my card base.  A sponge dauber and some watermark ink helped me create a simple background to allow the Mum to take center stage.

Thanks for stopping by today.  Come on back tomorrow for more creativity!

I totally made this card for one of my co-workers who was not having her best day!  I can't wait to leave this on her desk and listen for her laugh.  Either that or she will come tearing into the staff lounge with a broom.  I used a little bit of repetition and a lot of coloring here.  Off you go to Janine for more inspiration.  Come on back tomorrow for more creativity!

Friends and Circular Cards (09/15/14)

Happy Monday!  We have one more week left for this fun Friends of Speedy TV challenge to make a circular card.  I used a tank top of my daughter's as inspiration for this card.  She wore it in this year's back to school parade.  Her class theme was Third Grade is Just Another Day In Paradise.  A grass skirt and plumeria hair clip completed her outfit.  We got lucky and had decent weather for the parade.  I didn't get to see her, but my sister-in-law took pictures.  You see, I was walking with our darling Kindergarten students.
Don't forget that Mark's Finest Papers offers a stamp set to one lucky participant.  For this challenge, the prize is called Out On The Town.  Here's a peek:
Thanks for stopping by and have a great week!  Don't forget, this is a blog hop week.  There will be lots and lots of eye candy!

Friends and Eyelets (8/25/14)

I'm catching up just a little bit more. This is a card from the last August Friends of Speedy TV challenge to use eyelets on a card.  I took this image on vacation with me and colored it up during a rainstorm in the camper.  I finished it off my stamping a sentiment across the bottom of the card and using my Spritzing Tool to create some interest on the card base.

Thanks for looking!

Details - Stamps: Roses (MFP); Paper: Snow Storm Smooth (MFP), Black Licorice (MFT); Ink: Tuxedo Black, Dusty Durango; Accessories: Corner Chomper, Spritzing Tool, Crop-a-dile, MM black eyelets.

Friends and Cards for Children (9/1/14)

Time to do a little catching up again!  There is one my day to play in the Friends of Speedy TV challenge where you create a card for a child.  I had some fun with this one.  I nabbed some paper from a paper pack that worked perfectly with my parrot image from Buried Treasure!  I had to wrinkle and sand my "treasure map" to make it look just a bit more authentic!  At first I thought I might give this to a 5 year old whose birthday party we were to attend today.  However, we caught the first cold of the school year and now can't attend for fear of sharing it.
Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!
