Now those flames are "in tents", aren't they?  Sorry about that folks, but it took me a little while to get that pun.  I felt like a dunce when I finally did!  Anyhow, I love the sentiment.  It's really true, especially for our family.  I went camping with my family in a motor home as a child.  As an adult, my husband (boyfriend then) introduced me to backpacking.  It was quite a change, but one I was easily able to embrace.  Now that we have a young child, we have a small tent trailer and still rough it quite a bit!  My hubby hasn't seen this card yet, but I'm sure he'll love it!

Hooray!  I have more cattails today.  Oh, I love these.  Let me tell you that I have been fascinated with cattails since I was a young girl.  My mother had some dried cattails and I used to love to touch those forbidden things.  I can touch these cattails all day long and not risk the upset of my mother!  I imitated the fuzzy texture of my mother's cattails with the strands of burlap twine. 

 

Maybe I will send this to my sister and see if she remembers Mom's cattails and ask if you touched them secretly too.

Marsh Silhouettes & Lily of the Valley - A Mark's Finest Papers Bonus

Are you ready for another release from Mark's Finest Papers?  I am so excited for you because I am really enjoying all these to be released sets.  Talk about fun, this is serious fun!  I'm kicking off this post with a look at a new Mark's Finest Papers set called Marsh Silhouettes.  I wanted a soft and understated card and so I used the single cattail image with a sympathy sentiment.  I cut up my focal image into six equal pieces and sponged each edge to soften and imitate the look of tiles.  How did I do?  Do you get tiles from this?

My next card comes from the mini set being released this month called Lily of the Valley.  I was immediately drawn to this set because these are the birth flowers for the month of May and my daughter's birthday is this month.  For this card I stamped the lilies and then cut them out.  I used one of the four sentiments in the bottom left hand corner.  I then rounded a couple of corners and pierced three rows under the lilies.

Friends and Home

Good Morning!  Happy Monday to all.  Today I bring news of another Friends of Speedy TV challenge.  This time, it's an inspiration challenge by something in your home.  I received this beautiful box from my boss this past Christmas, you can see the lid in the photo here.  I think you can see how the teardrop shaped jewel inspired my stamp choice on my Clean and Simple card.  What might be harder to see is that I embossed the feather image with a marcasite embossing powder so that it sparkles much like the box as well.  I also inked the sentiment in two colors that picks up the colors of the ribbon and the eye of the peacock feather, like the two colors in the jewel and the beads on the side of the lid.  One more thing, I use Dahlhouse Designs Wanna Sketch #04 on my card.

Friends and New Jobs

Happy Monday!  For those of you counting with me, there are only 28 days of school left.  Whew!  These are the hardest in my opinion.  But you didn't come to hear about my work, you came for the card, right?  Today, I bring you the current Friends of Speedy TV challenge to make a card for someone with a new job.  When faced with the challenge, I sat at my desk to thumb through my stamps and stopped with I got to the grapes.  I just couldn't resist.  With this card and a bottle of wine, one could certainly celebrate a new job.  Just a little more insight into crafting at my house, my 6 year old read me some Shel Silverstein poems while I colored the grapes.  Yep, we were knocking out some homework at the same time!

A Scor-Pal and SEI Gift Card Holder

Hello!  It's Toni here with another Scor-Pal project.  This week, the Scor-Pal team is hopping with the SEI team.  You will not want to miss one of the amazing projects put out by the Scor-Pal design team and the SEI design team.  For my part in this week's hop, I created a pop gift card holder*. 

For this project, you will need:

• Scor-Pal
• Scor-Tape
• Scor-Mat
• Craft Knife
• Ruler
• One 4" x 12" piece of designer paper
• One 4 1/4" x 4 1/4" piece of card stock
• One 1 7/8" x 3 7/8" piece of card stock
• One 1 3/4" x 3 3/4" piece of designer paper
• Additional card stock, rhinestones, dies and ribbon to embellish

Place the 12" side of the 4" by 12" designer paper along the top fence of the Scor-Pal with the desired pattern face up.  Score at 4" and 8".  The designer paper featured here is SEI Mia Bella.  This particular pattern with the silver foil accents shouted "wedding" to me.  

 Turn paper over and score at 6".

 Crease score lines creating mountain, valley and mountain folds from left to right.

 Insert your Scor-Mat and place your patterned paper, desired pattern down with the 12" side along the top fence of the Scor-Pal.  Align the ruler with the 6" score line and cut on that line from 3/4" to 3 1/4" (allowing enough room to insert your gift card).

 With patterned paper desired side up, line with Scor-Tape as shown.  The most important idea within this step is to avoid taping the cut side closed.

 Remove backing from the Scor-Tape and adhere the two center sections together, forming the insert for the gift card.

 Embellish as desired.  This particular gift card holder is adhered to a 4 1/4" by 4 1/4" mat.  The line art wedding cake was embossed in silver and die cut.  Then it was matted on a larger silver card stock die cut.  White taffeta ribbon was tied in a bow across the front of the card and rhinestone flourishes were applied to opposing corners.  The focal image was then popped up on the card front. 

The gift card insert was embellished with some more of the SEI Mia Bella designer paper matted with some silver card stock.  The gift card then slides right into the slit created with the craft knife.

Using the Derby

It's Saturday, May 4, 2013 and today is the Kentucky Derby.  I used today's horse racing event as my inspiration for the Thursday Ways To Use It challenge.  I honestly don't know much about the Kentucky Derby, other than what I read briefly to prepare for the challenge.  I do know that one of my cousins is at Churchill Downs today with her husband and a gorgeous hat!  I'm a bit out of touch with her since her hubby swept her off her feet many moons ago and has kept her on the East Coast.  I think his family is big into horse racing. 

 

Back to my card!  For my challenge this week, I asked crafters to create a card with a horse on it.  I grabbed this beauty from a Mark's Finest Papers set called Wild Horses.  I sponged some misty mountains behind my horse and let her run!  I added some interest with some patterned paper and finished it off with a couple of brads, a sentiment and rounded corners.
