So Many Challenges...

...so little time!  I have so many ideas floating around in my tiny little brain.  I just don't have enough time to sit with my crafty stuff.  Here is a card I made for the mini VSN.  Michelle challenged crafters to "slim down".  That meant that crafters would have to make a card with two layers of card stock, an encouraging stamp and her favorite color, kraft.  No problem....a card was born. 

I had a wonderfully crafty weekend and then my mojo took a little break!  At the same time, the kids ramped up at work and so that leaves me no time to plan out cards in my head. 

For this card, I used a background builder type stamp for the hearts and then used rub-on clouds.  Have I ever mentioned that I love rub-ons?  I pierced some holes and knotted some red embroidery floss.  I seem to recall seeing some of this from Lisa Johnson first.  I punched out an oval and stamped my sentiment on the card base!

Wanna Play?

The VSN mini took place tonight on SCS.  There were six challenges in six hours.  Of course, you can play all weekend long.  The deadline for uploading your submission is Monday, January 24, by 8PM EST. 

This card was for the first challenge hosted by Theresa and it was called Punch You Heart Out.  It is what I would call a recipe challenge.  There are four components to the challenge and they are the sketch, the colors, the use of punches and the stamped sentiment! 

It was a hard one to start off with and I think it really kicked VSN into gear.  Of course, I had to use some of my new Verve!  I am totally loving my new sets!  I can't wait to get up to my craft room and give my new stamps some more love.  Maybe tomorrow will be about Baby Love!

Are You Tired of Fish Yet?

I am just about tired of fish, but really, who could tire of these two little cuties in a fish bowl!  This is my last sample card for this week's CAS challenge, to be inspired by the title "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish".  It also meets with Deb's Dare to Get dirty challenge.  You can see that here (if you are a Fan Club Member).  Oh wait, it also meets with Sharon Johnson's Stamp Simply challenge called "Two's Company". 

I had a little fun with my crystal effects here.  I glossed up my bowl and because of that, Denise informed me that it meets with her current RESQ challenge.  So I will link it up there.  And while I am piling on the challenges, I think I will enter this in the Moxie Fab World's challenge to create  something "fun and cute". 

That should be about a record for me, 5 challenges.  Seriously, I didn't really plan it that way.  But it is nice when it happens!

Look Out Summer DT!

I am applying CAS DT!  This was my first of three challenges that I completed thus far.  The theme for this application process is Amusement Park and this challenge was to create a card with a focal image of a person, using bold bright colors and a bit of ribbon.  Here is what I came up with:)

And there was a second challenge card, the regular CAS challenge (I'll show you that tomorrow).  Then the field was narrowed.....and I made the first cut!  I'm so proud of myself.  There is a fourth challenge for me to do and I will work on it tonight.  VSN starts tomorrow and you know I have to play along with that!

Triple Take Action

Oh my goodness!  I love how this turned out!  This card was made for another Unity Second Anniversary challenge to use 4 different patterned papers, a sketch and a button or bling for an embellishment.  I chose neutral papers to go with the Versamagic inks that I used.  How am I doing on my patterned paper combination?  I didn't read the article I bookmarked by Julia Stainton.  I just tried to remember what she had suggested.  I guess I should go back and evaluate how I did.

The Return of the Dream Tree

I haven't used this stamp in what seems like such a long time.  This tree is the reason I began buying stamps from Unity Stamp Company (and shortly thereafter I discovered their fabulous service).  The tree is part of a set called Growing in Unity (I think), but was offered for a short time as a single.  That is when I picked it up.  I made this card for a challenge as part of Unity's second anniversary/birthday.  Carole, a long time customer of Unity, issued a challenge to use your very first stamp you purchased on a project.  I was more than happy to get the Dream Tree out and ink it up!

I used this opportunity to play along with Caardvark's challenge to create a monochromatic card.  I think I may have missed the deadline, but I still linked it up and had fun in the process. 

I'm pretty sure you can't see it in the photo, but I spritzed my card stock with Vanilla Smooch and punched out my butterflies.  I am really loving that stuff.  I need to break into another color and see if I love it even more!

Saturday Stamping

Do you like the background colors I used in the photos of these cards???  I feel a new card coming on!   Sorry for the digression there, I 'll get on with the info about these cards.  This is a card I created for the Limited Supply Challenge from Friday.  It was titled Happy New Year.  I used a CPS sketch.  It was pretty easy and I could readily do it again.  I may, right after I get to the hardware store and raid the paint chip strips :)  That's right folks, I trimmed one of those babies down!  



Onto the next card... another Limited Supply Challenge card.  My new thing here was the Textile embossing folder.  This card was so stinking fast.  I embossed the card base, cut a piece of  Melon Mambo card stock, applied the rub-on and finished it off with a sticker!  Voila! 


My final card followed a 2 Sketches 4 You sketch and met criteria for many different challenges to use "new" things.  This is a new stamp set (to me) by Unity Stamp Company called The Artist in You!

Happy New Year!

These cards are all from some NewYear's Eve challenges that I did last night.  My hubby and daughter worked with me so that I could get a little crafting time in.  I am thankful for that, especially since he is heading out this morning for a weekend New Year's backpacking trip with this friends. 

This first card is for the Countdown to the New Year challenge.  The challenge was to use 5 layers, 4 embellishments, 3 colors, 2 stamps and 1 punch.  This card also met the criteria for this week's Ways to Use It challenge, It's About Time.  The challenge was about using some sort of time image.  Finally, I used a sketch from Karen Giron :)

This card was for the Ringing in the New Year challenge, hosted by Faith.  The challenge was to include something that makes noise on your card.  Bells were are obvious choice.  I grabbed some wedding paper and a fun scripted sentiment and away I went.  Now I will have a lovely wedding card on hand for the next time an occasion presents itself.

This was for the third challenge of the night called Bringing in the Year, Clean and Simple.  Yep, you guessed it, a card in the clean and simple fashion.  This one was fun to make and quick.  I was working on my ability to make, photograph and upload quickly even though it wasn't a VSN with time limits!  I have been itching to stamp this little turtle.  I think they will make some cute little thank you's that Sweet Pea can give away!

This card was for an inspiration challenge.  The challenge was called New Year's Day Bowl Games.  The crafter had to pick a bowl game and be inspired by the bowl game name.  I chose the Holiday Bowl and made a Valentine's Day card.  I think it worked out fine!  In order to help me speed up the process, I used Julee's sketch from Mojo Monday. 

This last card was created for a challenge called Glitz and Glam.  It was a Ways To Use It type of challenge.  The call was to use "bling" of any sort on your card and that was it!  I'm not sure if the photo shows it, but I stamped my image in white craft, then covered with Heat & Stick powder and then ultrafine glitter.  I really enjoy Susan Raihala's blog and creations, so I emulated this card.

A Papercrafting Hat Trick

I made this for Saturday's Inspiration Challenge on SCS and also for the Etsy Inspired Challenge.  I loved the damask bags/bedding, so I went with it!  I also admire how Dawn McVey works with this particular design.  With that in mind, I emulated her work.  But I really like the look of this card.

This was the easiest card ever.  I made this card for the Limited Supply Challenge on Christmas Day.  The challenge was to use leftover wrapping paper, tags, bows etc.  I found this cute little snowman tag from one of SweetPea's packages.  Even though I am sick of Christmas cards, there was no other place to go with this one.  It's ca-ute and seriously, took less than 10 minutes.  While I was raiding the trash, I snagged three other cutesy tags and will have to whip up a few more Christmas cards for next season.

This card was for the Christmas Eve Ways to Use it Challenge.  Julia took it easy on us and just made the challenge about using a background stamp. I really, really like the Clean and Simple Stamping blog, so I searched through it for a sketch and came up with this one ;)  I just know I will need to start on my thank you's and my daughter's thank you notes soon, so I made this into a thank you card.  I tried a couple of techniques on this card too.  I made the cardstock strip that looks like a ribbon with the faux suede technique and some faux stitching. 

Pie for Bro

I made this card for this week's Unity Bachelor Bro Challenge, Dinner with Bro! Unity owner, Angela, mentioned something about Bro's recipe for Pants Down Chicken. Sounds interesting, eh? So, I thought that since Bro had dinner covered, I would go ahead with dessert. Sour Cream Apple Pie anyone?

A CAS DT challenge card...

This was for the CAS design team sketch challenge for the fall quarter. Odds are not in my favor as there are so many wonderful artists who can design in the CAS style. I decided I would try just the same. Anyway, the sketch is based on this card. I also decided to incorporate Dawn McVey's Raspberry Suite Color Challenge. If you enlarge the photo, you may be able to see all the glitter from my Sakura Clear Star gel pen. That's a fun, inexpensive tool if you are looking for a little something-something to add to your crafting arsenal.

This is a card I made for the Limited Supplies challenge on SCS. The challenge was to make a card for a man or a young man, with the idea that those folks are just the hardest to make cards for.

I Hip-Hopped a very little!

Crazy, but I seem to have a little more time for Hip Hop when I am working! Oh well, I did find some time today to play both of the Hip Hop challenges. This first card was made for the challenge titled, "Not a Ribbon in Sight". I thought I would have a harder time with it, but I didn't. I had fun stamping my image on Kraft and then just coloring it with colored pencils. I couldn't find a Unity sentiment that I wanted to put on it, so I just used a rub-on that was sitting on my desk! I achieved the lighter brown color on the cuckoo clock with my Versamark pen.




This little number was for the Hip Hop Challenge titled "Wing It" . This card gave me fits! I was trying to make it a one layer card, but embossing powder wouldn't stay put and then ink smeared. Yeah, not once, but twice! Finally, I just cut out my image and sentiment and shifted from white to black! I actually like it better. I used my ruler and my Sakura Clear Star gel pen to create the shimmery box.

VSN Is Over:(

Every VSN has a kid's challenge, I think. I have only participated in a few VSN's and Sweet Pea has played two times with me. I let her get a little more active in creating this card. She really enjoyed it and yesterday she wanted to stamp again. Crazy!!







This little challenge from VSN was called Late Night Snack With Elvis. The colors were drawn from his favorite snack and the card also had to include music somewhere. His favorite snack was Fried Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwiches so the colors were Barely Banana/So Saffron, Creamy Caramel and Close to Cocoa! I had a hard time getting the yellow to show. I sponged it in the center of the oval. To make up for that I made sure to color my rhinestones with my Dandelion Sharpie.
I got the sketch from the ladies at Our Creative Corner. When you only have 45 minutes to crank out a card, you have to use all the tools at your disposal. Sketches are a total time saver.




This card was made for the challenge called Hitting the Tables. It ended up being a color challenge to include only red, black and white! The hostess was adamant about using only those three colors, so I was careful to do just that. I like the way my card turned out and, in fact, it netted me a new Unity stamp this week. Woohoo! More Unity on the way!

This card was made for the VSN challenge, Non-traditional Wedding. The trick here was to create a wedding card with bold bright colors. The hostess wanted quirky and out of the box as opposed to the more traditional kind of simple, elegant wedding card! This was very hard for me as most of the time I am pretty rule based! Tradition dictates simple and elegant!
This next set of cards is for the VSN challenge called Double Down. The task was to create two of the same cards and make it fun. The hostess offered up some prompts and said that "relax" was an appropriate sentiment. I just happened to have the very same sentiment that she sampled and I figured, why not? This challenge helped me to learn that I can make cards quick. I made two in less than 45 minutes here!
This card was made for a challenge called Lucky Number 7 and the task was to use 7 of something. I used 7 rhinestones for the center of my flowers. I also only inked up a portion of my stamp to include 7 flowers. The stamp normally has 9 flowers. I also tried to used 7 inches of ribbon, but it just wasn't enough for me to make a knot in the ribbon. I came up with my colors via Dawn McVey's Raspberry Suite color challenge. I borrowed the sketch from the Stamps and Smiles blog in order to save time!





Apparently, I like this layout. It is in three of my VSN cards! This card is from a challenge called Card Buffet. The challenge was to be inspired by some food or non-alcoholic beverage. I chose cupcakes. Who doesn't like cupcakes? Plus, Sweet Pea loves them and they are all the rage at the moment!
Another thing I re-learned at VSN is don't try to learn a new technique and get a card done in 45 minutes. It is especially important not to do this when you need your card to be presentable at a baby shower is a little over an hour! What a goofball I can be sometimes! This challenge was called CSI: Las Vegas and the task was to use a frame on your card.

Unity is 1!!!

They threw an amazing week long party with challenges, games and prizes from Unity and Unity sponsors! These are my five challenge cards. This card was from a color challenge that Jennifer Buck issued and the colors were Kraft, Baja Breeze, Ruby Red and So Saffron. They were hard colors for me to use, but I did it. I tried to mimic Jen's style, but somehow it didn't work out as well for me! I guess that should teach me to enjoy other people's style and create in my own!

Christi Snow issued the next challenge in honor of Unity's "FIRST" birthday. The task was to create a card with F=Flowers, I=Insect, R=Ribbon, S=Scallops and T=Turquoise or Teal on it. I learned through the process of this challenge that the Basic Grey Urban Prairie line has lots of papers with little bugs on it. Crazy! I never noticed it before!!!
This next card comes from Maren Benedict's inspiration challenge! She linked us up to some amazing cake photos on Flickr. I wish that I had better photography skills or equipment to show the actual sparkle on the cupcakes. From what I read, that kind of sparkle is difficult to capture in photos, even for quite practiced crafters!
This next card was in response to Jeanne Streiff's challenge to create a one-layer birthday card! I busted out some of the speciality paper from my Taste of Textiles pack from SU!. It's quite pretty in real life. Again, the sheen and shimmer is hard to capture in a photo.
Finally, the last challenge posed by Jimmi Mayo was to use the first Unity stamp that you got on a card or project! I combined this challenge with the last sketch challenge for Stamps and Smiles for their May Release festivities. I will post the other three cards from those festivities later! I think that you can see the loads of glitter and sparkle on this card. I got the glitter dp in a RAK from Jennifer Buck, as well as the rhinestone brad in the one-layer card above! I think she would be surprised if she actually knew how much that I have used all the supplies that she has sent me!

Can you see me now?

Yep, you can because I was the winner (okay, it was random)of Limelight Papercraft's Six Chick Sketch Challenge!!! Mandy always throws a product twist in with the challenge and this week the twist was to use metallic elements on your card. How is 28 silver half-back pearls for a metallic element? I strayed a little from the sketch. Instead of two accent elements in the bottom left hand portion of the circle, I ran my black grosgrain ribbon across that point of the circle! All in all, it was a fun sketch!
This card is a triple challenge card! I used the Taylored Expressions Cupcake Challenge sketch, the colors from Kristina Werner's Color Inspiration 48, and participated in the Hero Arts Challenge to create a one-layer card! This card had some serious masking and reverse masking! I thought it through and then wrote it down step by step. Then I tried it, goofed it up and did it once more! I like how it turned out. Next time, I will either use markers or blender pens, but not both. I think I like the lower intensity blender pen coloring best. One last comment, I went over the sprinkles on the cupcake with a white gel pen to make them stand out from the chocolate frosting!

Baby, they were hippin' and hoppin' on Thursday!

Unfortunately, I spent most of Thursday with medical professionals trying to sort out why Sweet Pea was having trouble breathing! I am happy to say that four days later, she is much better.
Anyway, here are my SCS sponsored cards that I used my Unity on! This first one is the Limited Supply challenge. Black and white only, with silver embellishments! It's harder than it looks!
This one is from the Clean and Simple Challenge from Monday. A sketch was given to follow and I did my best. I used colors from Dawn McVey's new color inspiration challenge, Raspberry Suite Color Challenge. The colors didn't pop like I wanted them to, but I have an idea about how to fix it. The sketch was essentially a ribbon tied across the bottom of the card, with a flower attached over the ribbon on the right hand side of the card. The sketch is more clear in my second card.





Here is my second CAS card that I did for Monday's challenge. Like I mentioned above, the sketch is easier to see here. This card was super simple due to my new Nestabilities. I finally pulled the trigger on that one. In order to attach the gingham ribbon on the focal image, I punched a small hole and tied two pieces of ribbon in a knot and pulled the tails through the hole. I'm sure there is an easier was to do this, but I couldn't think of one!
This card was made for this Color Challenge on SCS. The colors I used were Pink Pirouette, Riding Hood Red and Chocolate Chip. The Bella Rose designer paper series uses all three of those colors, so I just picked a couple of the patterns and put it together. I used the Big Shot Top Note die. With the Bella Rose paper, I just trimmed away the perforated edge to achieve the look I wanted. I used chocolate grosgrain and sheer pink ribbon to finish off my look!
It seems like I hardly ever do the Sketch Challenge on SCS, but I did this one! I liked the clean lines of this sketch. It was really easy for me to do, especially since my Sweet Pea wasn't feeling very good and I wanted to stay upstairs across from her room to keep tabs on her. I used one of my favorite Basic Grey papers, Two Scoops. I just love this blue and green patterned paper!
Oh yeah, I went with Basic Grey Two Scoops again! This time the challenge was for Hip Hop Thursday, to create a project or card in a baby theme. I don't have any Unity baby stamps (how is that possible?). So I went with pink (my baby wore pink) and soft and chose words that new parents need to remember: Laugh, Play, Enjoy! I don't know why I threw the brown in there, but I think it worked out just fine.

I {heart} Verve, again!

Viva La Verve strikes again, this time for the month of March. This first sketch features a twist of buttons. Of course, I had to use my new Verve stamps that I got and some new Cosmo Cricket paper I picked up. You can find the sketch here.
Here is the second sketch for March, with a twist of red, pink and green! I just had to use my SU Raspberry Tart dp for it. It was perfect and I loved how my Verve stamps replicated the flower in the dp. I am please with my coloring on this card as well. And, get this, I tied a bow! Wonders never cease!
This week's sketch called for a twist of birthday. Lucky for me, I also picked up Verve's Circular Sayings with a cool birthday sentiment in it! I also picked up some Basic Grey Lily Kate dp. I don't think it's new, but it's new to me! The celery card stock was a little bright compared to the green in the dp, so I sponged some Craft white on it to tone it down. I think it worked okay!
Finally, I got into my Cosmo Cricket dp for the fourth sketch. This sketch called for a twist of CAS (Clean and Simple). It wasn't really clean and simple, but limited the embellishments a bit (punches did not count, so I used six punches!)

Some Randomness

I stack cards that I have made and posted to my SCS gallery on top of my printer. I leave them there so that I remember to post them to my blog. I finally post them to my blog after the stack becomes unbearably tall or Sweet Pea starts to run off with them. I only have 15 on my printer right now. I should have 17, but I made two for occasions that I was attending. Don't worry, I won't show them all in one post. For this card, I used the colors from Kristina's Color Inspiration, a sketch from the Weekend Sketch Challenge, ribbon for Flourishes Timeless Tuesday challenge and the ribbons made into tabs for Sharon Johnson's Stamp Simply challenge! Whew!
This card has just one less challenge included in it. I started with an Our Creative Corner sketch and used Limited supply challenge to fill out the card with soft subtle colors and a flower as my main image. I finally submitted a card for the weekly Hero Arts challenge. This week the challenge was spring! I used some fab PTI dp that Jen Buck graciously gifted me and ribbon from my wedding (over 7 years ago!!)
So finally, this card only includes two challenges. This meets the Flourishes Timeless Tuesday Challenge mentioned above due to the different kind of ribbon and also meets with the Limelight Papercrafts Six Chick sketch (with a fuzz and fluff emphasis!)
