Friends and Fuschsia

And Black and Yellow.  Time for another Friends of Speedy TV challenge and this time it is a color challenge.  It just so happens that I had a hand in these colors.  As luck would have it, Mark's Finest Papers just released a great set called Hum Along with a beautiful hibiscus.  This new set played right into my colors.  I had to try a pointillism technique I had seen done with Copic markers.  My work did not turn out as the sample shown by the tutorial writer, but I do like the effect.  Perhaps I need to use darker colors to get the pointillism effect.

I played along with a few of the Love Fest challenges at Splitcoaststampers.  This is the sketch that was offered up by Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps.  I'll be linking it up over at Splitcoaststampers later today!

Hey, let's not forget that Mark's Finest Papers offers a free stamp set for one randomly drawn winner of the challenge.  So make sure you play so that you have a chance to win.  Enjoy The View is the set being offered this week.

Thanks for stopping by!

A Scor-Pal Picnic Caddy

It's time for another fun Scor-Pal project.  This time I will be making a Picnic Caddy.  This has so many potential uses that I am quite excited about it.  I can see this caddy personalized for parties, dolled up for Easter or filled with school supplies for a teacher or student heading back to school.  The possibilities are really endless.
For this project, you will need:
  • one 12" x 12" piece of card stock
  • four 4 3/4" x 3 1/4" pieces of card stock
  • four 4 5/8" x 3 1/8" pieces of card stock
  • four 4 1/2" x 3" pieces of patterned paper
  • two 8 1/2" x 5" pieces of card stock
  • two 7 1/2" x 3 7/16" pieces of card stock
  • two 2 1/2" x 1/2" pieces of patterned paper
  • paper snips
  • corner rounder
  • Oval shaped die or punch
To begin, place your 12"x 12' piece of card stock in your Scor-Pal and score 3 1/2" and 8 1/2".
Rotate your card stock 90 degrees and score again at 3 1/2" and 8 1/2".
Cut on the score lines from the outer edge in to the first score line, as shown below.
Crease all of your folds and place Scor-Tape on all four corner tabs of the what will become our picnic caddy base.
Remove adhesive backing and assemble picnic caddy base.
Mat each of the four 4 1/2" x 3" patterned paper pieces on the 4 5/8" x 3 1/8" card stock pieces (yellow).  Mat again on top of the 4 3/4" x 3 1/4" card stock pieces (black).  Adhere each of these double matted patterned paper pieces to the sides of the picnic caddy base.  My patterned paper comes from the Fancy Pants Designs Hopscotch Collection and this particular piece is called Charming.
Now place one 8 1/2" x 5" piece of card stock in your Scor-Pal with your 8 1/2" side along the top fence.  Score at 2 1/2".  Repeat with a second piece of  8 1/2" x 5" card stock.
Round the top corners (those furthest away from your score line) of both pieces of the 8 1/2" x 5" card stock.  Die cut or punch an oval shape under the rounded corners.  To get my ovals in the exact same spot, I used removable adhesive to keep my card stock pieces aligned perfectly and then ran them through my die cutting machine with an oval die.
Crease the score lines of these two pieces and use Scor-Tape to adhere the two pieces together above the score line.  Line the bottom of the two flaps with Scor-Tape.
Remove Scor-Tape backing and carefully adhere this piece inside your picnic caddy base.  You have now created your handle for your caddy.
Place the 3 7/16" side of a  7 1/2" x 3 7/16" piece of card stock against the top fence of your Scor-Pal and score at 1/2".  Turn you paper 180 degrees and score at 1/2" again.  Repeat this on the next 7 1/2" x 3 7/16" piece of card stock.
With the 7 1/2" side up against the top fence, score at 1/2", 3 1/2", 4" and 7".  Repeat this on the next 7 1/2" x 3 7/16" piece of card stock.
Trim out each 1/2" square as shown.  Repeat this on the next 7 1/2" x 3 7/16" piece of card stock.
Crease all of your score lines and apply Scor-Tape to tabs as shown.  Repeat this on the next 7 1/2" x 3 7/16" piece of card stock.
Remove backing on the Scor-Tape and assemble small box to be used as an insert in the picnic caddy.  Repeat this on the next 7 1/2" x 3 7/16" piece of card stock.
Adhere 2 1/2" x 1/2" pieces of patterned paper to the top of each insert.
Apply Scor-Tape around the remaining three sides of the inserts.
Remove backing from the Scor-Tape and carefully adhere inserts into the picnic caddy base, creating four separate compartments.
Fill your picnic caddy as desired.
I loaded my caddy with paper napkins and plastic cutlery.  To test out my caddy, I stuffed it full (not shown here) and the caddy turns out to be quite strong!

Thanks for reading along through today's tutorial.  Have a wonderful day!

Today, I am doing what I wanted to do yesterday!  First, I stamped my line stamp outlines in a row.  Then I flipped my stamp over and used the back side of the image to add color to each "stamp".  (Yesterday, I wanted to add color to my raindrop with my stamp but it didn't work because the shape of the raindrop was not symmetrical).  I inked up my sentiment and stamped it over my line of "stamps".  Finally, I added my pearls.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!  Don't forget to see what Sue did for the release of this set!

Now this is my kind of set!  I love those raindrops.  They are huge and squishy and you know they make a big splat.  These are the raindrops that the Pacific Northwest is known for!!!  In fact, the local weather forecast is calling for rain and lots of it for the next five days.  My hubby is a little bummed because he had a snow camping trip planned and all that rain means huge snow in the mountains.  Too much snow could be dangerous for them.  We'll see if things change.  If he goes, that could mean oodles of crafty time for me!!

Thanks for stopping by!  Don't forget to head over to Sue's blog to see what she did with this fun new set.

I'm back with some more eye candy in the form of fabulous new images from Mark's Finest Papers.  Today we are featuring the set called Hum Along.  What a great collection!  I embossed this particular image in black on vellum and colored from behind.  I layered my vellum on white and matted with black.  I place the whole thing on top of an embossed white card base.  It's hard to see here, but I embossed the base with a striped embossing folder.  I added a thin strip of rose colored ribbon to pull out the rose color in the center of the hibiscus.

Thanks for stopping by!  Now, head off to see what Sue has cooked up for today!

Big Cupcake & Love Script - A Mark's Finest Papers Bonus

Happy Monday!  It's time to take a look at a couple of new extra sets from Mark's Finest Papers.  Tomorrow begins our February blog with lots of eye candy.  Today's sets are just an appetizer, if you will.  My card up above uses just a portion of the main image from Big Cupcake.  I morphed it into an ice cream cone with the help of my Scor-Pal and a little Creamy Caramel card stock and ink.
Here we have the newest background stamp from Mark's Finest Papers called Love Script.  I inked the background and then stamped off first to get a faded look.  I aged it a bit with some sponging.  I finished it off by popping my focal panel up and matting it a few times.

Thanks for stopping by!  Head on over to the Mark's Finest Paper blog to see what else I created and what some of the other design teams members came up with.

Details - Cupcake Cone - Stamps: Big Cupcake (MFP); Paper: Sweet Tooth White, Real Red, Creamy Caramel, DCWV Sweet dsp; Ink: Tuxedo Black, Creamy Caramel; Accessories: Scor-Pal, sponge dauber, Copic Markers, paper snips, PTI linen & canvas impression plate, corner chomper, baker's twine, stampin' dimensionals, glue dot.  Faded Love - Stamps: Love Script (MFP); Paper: Early Espresso, Favorite Natural (MFP), Cherry Cobbler; Ink: Crumb Cake, Early Espresso; Accessories: Heart Collection Framelit Die, baker's twine, sponge daubers, stampin' dimensionals.

Friends and Recipes

Welcome to Monday and another Friends of Speedy TV challenge! This week, we are making recipe cards. This is my card base that holds my recipe card inside. I decorated the front of my card base with a couple of shamrock images and a sentiment, "From My Kitchen to Yours" from the Recipe Completer set. Fortunately for me, one of the to be released sets from Mark's Finest Papers called Lots of Luck fits nicely with my Shamrock Cookie recipe that I make once a year.
Here's a shot of the inside of my card base where I have my removable recipe card!  I used elements from the Recipe Starter set and Lots of Luck.   I was brave and wrote out my recipe by hand.  I rarely show my handwriting as I am not fond of it.  I know my readers will be gentle, so it was a calculated risk!

Don't forget that Mark's Finest Papers offers a prize for one lucky participant.  This week the set that is being offered is called Oh Beans.  Check it out:

Thanks for stopping by!  Be sure to come back later for new Mark's Finest Papers sets being released this week!

A Love Fest Diamond Fold Card

Have you heard about Love Fest over at Splitcoaststampers?  No?  Well, it's eleven days (by my count) of fabulous challenges celebrating the Splitcoaststampers member companies.  Each day a different member company will host a challenge and you know there will be prizes!!!  Today, Scor-Pal is hosting a challenge.  Visit the Scor-Pal Forum here to see today's challenge.  With a title like Flips, Flaps and Oodles of Folds, you know we are looking for a fancy folded project.

Non-Traditional Monday

The Friends of Speedy TV are getting a little non-traditional.  Our challenge this week is to make a non-traditional Valentine.  I think I did it...my little girl looked at it and red it and then said, "Mom, there isn't any red or pink".  I asked her, "What makes it a Valentine?".  She said, "the heat and the words".  A few hours later, I met with a gallery owner who is in need of some handmade cards and brought some of my work to her, including today's card.  It was the first card she picked up and I think she really liked it.  She likes frogs..I had just met her, but I got the impression that she collects them.
So let's see your non-traditional Valentine.  It might just net you a new Mark's Finest Paper stamp set.  This week the stamp set is called Kilt Fun.  It's fabulous, check it out:
Thanks for coming by!

Using Green, Emerald

Well Hello!  Here's my Thursday card on Friday!  Just one day late, but I don't think it diminishes the cuteness any.  Our Ways To Use It leader Michelle has called out Pantone's color for this year as this week theme.  Of course, she is allowing any shade of green.  I opted to go with Emerald and colored my little Pure Innocence gal with this color.  I followed the current My Favorite Things sketch and had to add a few elements to make it my own (read: cover up my boo-boos)!  At some point, this will make a nice little thank you card for my daughter's teacher.  I like the sweet little girl with the apple.  Since I work in a school, I happen to know that children still give teacher's apples.  Isn't that sweet?

Enough of the chit chat, I suppose.  Have a great weekend!
