Friends and Metal

Welcome back!  It's Monday and the start of a new job for me.  Today is my new employee orientation and I'm very excited, to say the least.  But you didn't come to hear about my new job, you came for the next Friends of Speedy TV challenge.  This week we are all about metal!  I busted out my eyelets and used 30, count them, of those white enameled metal eyelets as a border for my daisy.  I wanted the eyelets to take center stage, so I left off the sentiment.  Now I have a sweet note card for any occasion that pops up.  My daisy is simply stamped on the kraft card stock and colored with pencils.  I adore white colored pencil on kraft.  I think it's an uber cool look.
Now don't forget that Mark's Finest Papers offers a free stamp set to one lucky participant in this challenge.  Let's see what you can do with some metal!

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Friends and Sentiments 08/19/13

This past week the Friends of Speedy TV challenge was to create a card with a sentiment only.  I used a fabulously fonted sentiment from the Lily of the Valley mini set from Mark's Finest Papers.  I have to give credit to Loll Thompson for this gorgeous card that inspired my own version.  I suppose I had my niece on my mind as well.  She got married yesterday and we couldn't make it to her wedding as we were camping on the other side of the mountains.  It's crazy how far in advance that one has to book a campsite for summer.  In fact, that is why this post is late.  I had to rush and rush to get ready on time and then, there was heaps of work to do once we got home.
Just today, I picked oregano, basil, corn, broccoli, blueberries, tomatoes, beets, beans and cucumbers.  I dehydrated the oregano and basil, canned the beans and then blanched and froze the corn.  We ate the beets with dinner, but tomorrow I will be picking beets again and then canning them.

I'll wish you all a wonderful night and stay tuned for tomorrow's new Friends of Speedy TV challenge.

Welcome back!  I'm so glad you could come and visit.  Today we are featuring a new set called Wealthy Fish and I adore this large bamboo image in the set!  I don't know why I love bamboo so much.  It's just such a peaceful image.  I stamped, colored and trimmed out the bamboo and tied it with some burlap string.  I popped it up above a textured strip and stamped a small sentiment above the strip.  The good luck sentiment is perfect for me today, as I have a few things brewing for which I may need luck.  However, I'm not at liberty to say anything more about those things.

Thanks again for coming by and have a fabulous day!  Head on over to Sue's blog now!

Ah, Country Charm, for sure!  When I first saw this cute set, I was in love!  If you had asked me 20 years ago if I would be a farm girl, the answer would most certainly been no.  However, life just has a way of happening to you.  The years have turned me into a farm girl with a love for barnyard animals!  These cuties demanded to be peeping out of a barn door of sorts.  So I punched out some squares for them to peek through.

By now, you must know what Sue has going on for her theme this month and I can't wait to take a peek at what she does with this set.

Thanks for stopping by!

Were you here yesterday, did you see my wings?  I'm feeling like wings again today I guess.  My branches flow out from my sentiment panel like wings.  Ha!  I stamped those darling branches and then fussy cut them out.  I just love this set for the bold sentiments as well.  They are super useful and I think they can carry a card.  It certainly does in this case.  Some embossing and sponging finish off today's card.

Head off to visit Sue and see some more of this month's theme.  It's  a great one!  Enjoy the rest of the hop!

A Scor-Pal and Viva Las Vegas Stamps Recessed Window Card

Hi, Toni here! It's my turn to share a Scor-Pal and Viva Las Vegas Stamps project. We will have a week long showing of some crafty goodness by both the Scor-Pal design team and the Viva Las Vegas creative team. I received some really fabulous stamp set with so many great images and sentiments.  I chose to show off this great image with a recessed window card.
For this project, you will need:
  • Ruler
  • Craft Knife
  • Stamps
  • Inks
  • Embellishments
  • 4 1/4" x 8 3/4" piece of card stock
  • Two 4" x 4" pieces of card stock
  • Two 3 1/4" x 3 1/4" pieces of card stock
  • Two 3" x 3" pieces of card stock
  • 2 7/8" x 2 7/8" piece of card stock
Place the 4 1/4" by 8 3/4" piece of card stock in your Scor-Pal.  The 8 3/4" piece will be against the top fence of the Scor-Pal.  Score at 4 1/4" and 4 1/2" marks.
Place a 3 1/4" by 3 1/4" piece of card stock where you want your recessed window.  Trace around the piece of card stock and remove it.
Place a 3" by 3" piece of card stock inside of the previously traced square.  Trace around the piece of card stock and remove it.
Insert your Scor-Mat in your Scor-Pal and place your card stock on top of it.  With a ruler and a craft knife make a cut from one corner to the opposite corner.  Repeat with the remaining two corners.
Score on the traced lines on each of the four sides.  The traced lines are 1/8" apart, so the scoring was completed with a Scor-Buddy
Turn your card stock over and crease the outside scores away from the center of the square.
Next, crease the inside scores toward the center of the square.  This creates a negative "X" shape and is the base of the recessed window.
Crease the scores made in the very first step to create the spine of the card.  The two scores make room for the recessed window and allow the card to lie flat.
With card open and recessed window on top, line the inside of the window with Scor-Tape
Remove backing from Scor-Tape and place a 3 1/4" by 3 1/4" piece of card stock into the recessed opening.
Stamp the Viva La Vegas Marilyn Monroe image in black and red on a 2 7/8" by 2 1/8" piece of card stock.  Overstamp the whole image with Versamark ink and emboss with clear embossing powder to create a sheen.  Mat the Marilyn image on a piece of 3" by 3" piece of card stock.  Adhere focal image into the recessed window.
Finish inside of card by covering the back of the recessed window with a 4" by 4" piece of card stock.  Cover the inside of the card with another 4" by 4" piece of card stock and stamp a Marilyn Monroe quote from the same Viva Las Vegas Stamps set.
Finish the outside of the card with a rhinestone frame.
Here is a view from the side to better show the recessed window in which Marilyn is framed.
Thanks for joining me today!

Here's the Design Team:
This is one of the first things that I thought of when I saw the pocket watch images.  I knew that I wanted to make time fly.  So I stamped and colored the whole pocket watch image from the background and then trimmed it out.  I embossed some wings from the mini set of the same name.  I attached my wings and allowed my time piece to fly.  I accessorized with some gold textured paper, black burlap twine and a couple of white brads.  A border punch of the top and bottom edges finished off my card.

Hope you have a wonderful day!  Don't forget to check out what Sue has in store for you.

Lucky You and Take Time - A Mark's Finest Papers Bonus

Here we are with the extra sets that are available this month as Mark's Finest Papers will soon begin the August New Release Blog Hop.  This little charmer comes from the new set called Lucky You!  I colored my kitty in some of the more common colors I spotted and backed it up with a coin background.  A little scored line separates my coins from my white space.  Since the kitty seems to be most often ceramic, I gave it a gloss of clear embossing powder.

Next up, I have a sampling from the mini set called Take Time.  Of course, it compliments one of the new sets you will see in this month's release.  Keep your eyes peeled for that amazing set.  I used an emboss resist technique to show off the pocket watch.  Then I braided some copper cording for my pocket watch chain.  I'll see you in a couple of hours for the first day of the Mark's Finest Papers August New Release blog hop!  Cruise by the Mark's Finest Papers blog to see what some of the other designers did with these two sets!

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Friends and Glitter

We are back to another Monday and a new Friends of Speedy TV challenge.  This week, we are all about the glitter, no matter how hard it is to photograph.  Perhaps, I should have gone with a silver glitter on my snowflakes, but I wanted them to look frosted, so I opted for some white glitter.  They do look frosted, but it's super hard to capture in a picture.  The glitter challenge instantly made me think of Christmas cards, so I resurrected the Winter Scenes set and used a sentiment and the snowflakes.  I liked the idea of the light blue base to work on.  Now that I think about it, I wonder if the white glitter would show up better on a navy blue.  Since this was a quick card, maybe I will try that next.  I wouldn't mind having a couple of these on hand.  It's really flat and super mailable!

Don't forget that Mark's Finest Papers is quite generous and offers a free stamp set to one lucky participant.  Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Friends and Food

Good day!  It's time for another Friends of Speedy TV challenge with a theme of Food for Thought.  I opted for this delightful lemon from a set called Pucker Up!  I think it is one of my favorite images to color.  I stamped and cut out an extra blossom to balance my sketch.  I also stamped and embossed the plaid from Kilt Fun as my background.  I'm not sure why I haven't used the plaid background more, but I sure love it here!  I combined my card with a couple of challenges from this weekend and last week too.  I played along with the mini VSN at Splitcoaststampers, as well as Dare To Get Dirty.  Let me tell you, my craft room is trashed.  I haven't cleaned up a stitch as I have been trying to create projects and keep up with the garden.  Housecleaning has sunk to a new low!

I did make and can some applesauce this morning.  Now I have to tend to watering and weeding and a tired and cranky 7 year old.  I see a nap in her future.

Thanks for stopping by!

Dirty Again

I've been on a roll with my card making.  I've been quite inspired by the Dare To Get Dirty challenges and then have been incorporating lots of other challenges too.  All of this means that my garden has been sadly neglected.  This will be just fine, all in the name of balance!  This card was for Bev's Dare To Get Dirty challenge and also for a Flourishes Birthday challenge (Christmas in July).  I stamped and colored my icicle ornaments.  Then I glittered them up with Stickles and pierced holes and tied on the linen thread.  Hindsight would dictate that I should have pierced holes and tied thread first before applying glitter, but my card survived!

This card was for Kittie's Dare To Get Dirty challenge and another Flourishes Birthday challenge.  This Flourishes challenge was to make a ten minute card and I was really pushing it!  I did get it done!  I worked on some cool techniques here that I will definitely use again.  It was very hard to stamp, color and fussy cut the floral image keep time under ten minutes.  That is the part that took me the longest!

This should have been my ten minute card, but alas it fits the Flourishes Birthday challenge to make a black and white card.  It also fits Sylvia's Dare To Get Dirty challenge.  It might not be polite or modest to say, but I love this card.  I want to make it in a million colors, if only I could find burlap string in all those colors!
Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!  I'll provide the link to my cards in my online gallery to save more time for crafting!
